iPad bugged – April 3 launch likely to be delayed

Reputable sources indicate that much anticipated iPad launch on April 3 will be delayed – a hardware bug was discovered.

Apparently, a Chinese contract manufacturer managed to maliciously modify circuitry of one of the chips used to build iPads. The modification provides a back door to all iPads, allowing the perpetrators to piggy-back on Apple software updates and upload malicious code.

Following the recent hacking scandal traced back to China and connection to a Chinese manufacturer, fingers were naturally pointed towards the Chinese Government’s secret service.

Most alarmingly, the bug apparently allows access to location-based services. This would help the Chinese Government not only to intercept dissidents’ electronic communications but also determine their physical location. The authorities would know who meets whom, where and when, and perhaps would even be able to eavesdrop and arrange arrests or assassinations.

The exact capabilities of the bug are still undetermined. But bearing in mind that it was hardware, not software that was compromised the worst can be anticipated. Sources indicate that Apple is seriously considering halting the launch and recalling all iPads already delivered to stores nationwide.

Apply is said to be considering making an announcement on April 1.
